Whenever I attend a networking event I always expect to see familiar faces, meet new friends and strengthen my connections. What I didn’t expect from this year’s RE/MAX National Convention in Vegas was to be so blown away and truly impacted by the powerful and inspiring speakers.

One of the people I was especially inspired by was Erik Weihenmayer. I completely understand now how he’s so successful at what he does. Erik is an athlete, adventurer, author, activist motivational speaker, and on May 25, 2001 “became the only blind person to reach the summit of Mt. Everst. In 2008 he climbed Carstensz Pyramid of the island of Papua New Guinea, completing the Seven Summits, the highest point on every continent” (Touchthetop.com).
Listening to Erik speak was both emotional and motivating. I learned a lot about teams and what it takes to accomplish hard tasks. Erik’s pledge of having “no barriers is for everyone, and the pledge is the first step towards living the life you have imagined” (Touchthetop.com). He’s inspired groups of people who get together and accomplish extreme activities despite any impediments they may have.
One story in particular stuck with me. Erik spoke of a man who used his life was artificial limbs to inspire his own business; building prosthetics with chips and sensors to enhance artificial limb technology.
Think about it. What does it take to get the hard stuff done? This attitude can be applied to any situation or business; you just need to be able to see the positive side and develop opportunities.
