If you’re one of the millions of people who have watched The Home Edit on Netflix, then you might have caught a little bit of the organizing bug. If you haven’t seen the show, expert home organizers help both celebrity clients and everyday clients contain problem areas of their home.
Their approach to organizing has people edit out their belongings, and then the experts work to categorize items, contain them (in their own line of containers), and present a system to the clients that will help them maintain the area of the home.
Part of what makes the show so addicting is the aesthetically-pleasing result; perfectly organized and spaced out items, colour-coordinated and labelled. A popular area that the organizers get their hands on is the pantry, and throughout the two seasons of the show, the pantries have some of the most dramatic transformations.
Using some tips learned from The Home Edit, here are some ways you can organize your pantry (plus some lovely pantries done by the professionals themselves).
Organizing Your Pantry
- Step one is removing everything from your pantry so you know what you’re working with. It might seem overwhelming, but it’s the best way to ensure you get the best result!
- Go through all the products and get rid of expired foods.
- Group all the items into like categories
- Before anything goes back into the pantry, make sure you give it a good clean.
- Use baskets and containers to store items when you put them back in the pantry. Tip: Put healthy items in clear containers and unhealthy items in baskets.
- Place food bins/ baskets back in the pantry in a way that makes sense for your family. Most-used items should be the most accessible.
- Label containers and baskets. This can help you make your grocery shopping list, and help other members of your household know where each item goes.
